Hi! I am David Frerker -Professional Sports Photographer

I have a passion for storytelling through photography. I graduated from San Diego State University in 2014 with a degree in Journalism, emphasizing Media Studies, and a minor in History. While in college, I was diagnosed with keratoconus, a rare eye disease that affects fewer than 200,000 people in the United States each year. Despite this challenge, I taught myself to photograph using my non-dominant eye and have been capturing the San Diego sports scene for the past 14 years.
Currently, I work as a freelance photographer for Imagn Images, affiliated with USA Today Sports. I have had the pleasure of photographing various professional sports, including Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), and the National Basketball Association (NBA). I am also the team photographer for the San Diego Strike Force, competing in the Indoor Football League (IFL).
Additionally, I have served as a freelance photographer for the University of San Diego Athletics Department, where I captured images from sports such as football, golf, men’s and women’s basketball, tennis, volleyball, and women’s swim and dive. In total, I have photographed 11 NCAA Division I sports. I have also served as team photographer for the San Diego Wave (2024), participating in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
Furthermore, I work as a contract photographer for Sports San Diego (San Diego Sports Commission), which is the team behind the DirecTV Holiday Bowl and the Rady Children’s Invitational. The DirecTV Holiday Bowl is one of the nation’s top bowl games, featuring elite teams from the Pac-12 Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Rady Children’s Invitational is a new men’s NCAA Division I college basketball tournament held during Thanksgiving weekend.

I have a wealth of experience photographing editorial features, events, and teams. I have worked with organizations in the IFL (Arena Football), LDFL (Football), MASL (Arena Soccer), MLR (Rugby), NCAA, NISA (Soccer), NLL (Indoor Lacrosse), NWSL (Soccer), WCFL (Football), and WPSL (Soccer). Since the creation of my blog in 2010, I have photographed over 1,000 sporting events.
My work has reached a global audience, with over 800 sports images published in 14 countries. My photographs have appeared in notable publications such as the Denver Post, ESPN, Kansas City Star, Miami Herald, New York Post, Reuters, San Diego Union-Tribune, Seattle Times, The Athletic, The Sporting Tribune, USA Today, and many others.
