Hi! I am David Frerker -Professional Sports Photographer
I have a passion for storytelling through photography. I graduated from San Diego State University in 2014 with a degree in Journalism (Emphasis in Media Studies) and a minor in History. While in college I was diagnosed with keratoconus. Keratoconus is a rare eye disease with less than 200,000 cases in the United States each year. I have taught myself to photograph with my non-dominant eye. I have been photographing the San Diego sports scene for the past 10 years.
I am currently a freelance photographer for USA Today Sports (having covered the NWSL and MLB) and freelance photographer for University of San Diego Athletics.
I am currently a team photographer for the San Diego Strike Force (IFL) and Team photographer for the San Diego Wave (NWSL).
I am currently a contract photographer for Sports San Diego (San Diego Sports Commission) in San Diego, California. SSD for short is the team behind the DirecTV Holiday Bowl and the Rady Children’s Invitational. The DirecTV Holiday Bowl is one of our nation’s top bowl games and features top teams from the Pac-12 Conference and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Rady Children’s Invitational is a new men’s NCAA Division I college basketball tournament held during Thanksgiving weekend.
I have experience photographing for editorial, events and teams. I have worked with teams playing in the Indoor Football League, LDFL Professional Developmental Football League, Major Arena Soccer League, Major League Rugby, National Lacrosse League, National Independent Soccer Association, NCAA, West Coast Football League and Women’s Premier Soccer League. I have photographed over 1,000 sporting events dating back to my blog’s creation in 2010.
I have had over 700 sports images published in 14 countries around the world. My images have been published in the Denver Post, ESPN, Kansas City Star, Miami Herald, New York Post, Reuters, San Diego Union Tribune, Seattle Times, The Athletic, The Sporting Tribune, USA Today and many other publications.
