David Frerker | Professional Sports Photographer

David Frerker is a San Diego-based professional sports photographer who has covered professional and collegiate athletics since 2012. A 2014 graduate of San Diego State University, David built his career after being diagnosed with keratoconus and teaching himself to photograph with his non-dominant eye.

Professional Sports Photography Experience

Today, David works as a freelance sports photographer for USA TODAY Sports and Imagn Images. His assignments have included Major League Baseball, the NBA, NWSL, NCAA athletics, and the Breeders’ Cup. For El Latino, he has covered MLS, NWSL, and the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF). He also serves as the team photographer for the San Diego Strike Force.

David also works on assignment for Sports San Diego, covering NCAA football and basketball, international rugby, international soccer, and NASCAR. Earlier in his career, he photographed 11 NCAA Division I sports for the University of San Diego and served as a team photographer for San Diego Wave FC in 2024.

Since 2012, David has photographed more than 1,200 sporting events, ranging from professional and collegiate competition to editorial assignments, team coverage, and major international events.

More than 1,500 of David’s sports photographs have been published in over 25 countries. His work has appeared in ESPN, Reuters, USA TODAY, The Athletic, the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Denver Post, the Kansas City Star, the Miami Herald, the New York Post, the Seattle Times, The Sporting Tribune, and numerous other publications.
